about

This music has been created in the spirit of 'what would that sound like?' What would a musical moiré pattern sound like? What happens when many loops are of different lengths and rarely coincide? What would it sound like to combine as many evocative moments and musical phrases as possible?

Often the results of these explorations turn out as interesting exercises and nothing more. This is volume 1 of the music that seemed to have more value to it. It is important that the tracks work, first and foremost, as enjoyable listens, without knowledge of the conceptual framework behind them. But the element of rigour to their composition and structure gives them a depth and weight they wouldn't otherwise have.

Building a piece around a process that works itself out over the duration is inherently satisfying. Our brains enjoy pattern recognition and will often look for regularity when none exists. But predictability can cause attention to wander. Great pains have been taken to maintain playfulness and emotion - the urge to perfect and polish has been offset by processes that are designed to produce unpredictable and spontaneous results. Patterns and accidents combined.
