This is an attempt to create a musical moiré pattern. The material for the moiré is carried in the violin and the result is very much like a Steve Reich phase piece. Added interest is provided by the percussion, in 4/4, against the contrasting violins in 3/4, causing the accents to fall in different places with each repetition. Harmonic motion is implied by the bassline, suggesting the many different time scales in which the music is operating.
